Jus' Rawsome Food Courses
Raw
foodists are the newest breed of health-conscious vegetarians, a
breed rapidly growing in numbers. Raw foodists eat primarily uncooked
plant foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. No meat, wheat,
dairy, or rice.
This
may sound limiting but there is a whole new freedom with this culinary
art: especially knowing that uncooked plant foods are the most nutritious,
healing foods of the planet. They contain a natural abundance of
vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and enzymes -- most of which
are destroyed, denatured, or rendered unusable to the body when
heated.
Human
beings began cooking over 125,000 years ago, but never to the extent
that we do now.
Today,
90% of the foods in the grocery stores is cooked, pasteurized, preserved
or irradiated. Obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart disease are reaching
epidemic proportions worldwide and most doctors and health advocates
cast the blame on our change in diet.
Never
before have we eaten so many harmful foods on a regular basis. Commercial
oils, cooked starches (i.e. potatoes, wheat and rice), and chemical
preservatives are highly carcinogenic and found in almost everyone’s
kitchen. When we cook carbohydrates the sugars become concentrated,
and these can lead to mood swings, fatigue, diabetes, weight gain,
and hypoglycemia. Become aware of what you put in your mouth and
how you feel afterwards.
Organic
(pesticide- and herbicide-free), ripe fruits and vegetables, nuts
and seeds are the most nutritious foods on the earth. We are the
only mammal species that cooks our food and the only mammal species
that suffers such widespread degenerative illnesses. Logically,
a diet compromised of whole plant foods is the most natural and
healthful choice you can make, but for many of us, this is a challenging
change in lifestyle. Any one concerned with their health should
include as many raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds in their
diet as possible.
